Book Promo: Summer at Sea Glass Cove

Welcome to Sea Glass Cove!

Marine archaeologist Lauren Sunshine is used to life on the go. Her suitcase is always packed ready to explore the country’s underwater heritage so when a shipwreck is found off the Dorset coast, she is thrilled to be leading the excavation team.

Philippa Silver, ‘Phil’ to the folk of Sea Glass Cove, has devoted her life to the Museum by the Sea. But funding is tight, and despite subletting half of the museum to her best friend Jules's sea glass shop, she fears for the museum’s future.

Phil hopes the wreck discovery could bring more visitors, but there’s a problem – the museum’s too small to house its treasures. Thankfully, new friend Lauren seems as determined as she is to save the museum.

But, when Phil’s brother Ollie catches Lauren’s eye, she begins to wonder if she has more than one reason to be interested in life at Sea Glass Cove….

Author Bio –

After a career in education, Maggie Christensen began writing contemporary women’s fiction  portraying mature women facing life-changing situations, and historical fiction set in her native  Scotland. Her travels inspire her writing, be it her trips to visit family in Scotland, in Oregon, USA or  her home on Queensland’s beautiful Sunshine Coast. Maggie writes of mature heroines coming to  terms with changes in their lives and the heroes worthy of them. Maggie has been called the queen  of mature age fiction and her writing has been described by one reviewer as like a nice warm cup of  tea. It is warm, nourishing, comforting and embracing.

From the small town in Scotland where she grew up, Maggie was lured to Australia by the call to  ‘Come and teach in the sun’. Once there, she worked as a primary school teacher, university lecturer  and in educational management. Now living with her husband of over thirty years on Queensland’s  Sunshine Coast, she loves walking on the deserted beach in the early mornings and having coffee by  the river on weekends. Her days are spent surrounded by books, either reading or writing them – her  idea of heaven!

Unfortunately, my July has been steeped in chaos. My apologies to Ms. Christensen for missing my blog tour date. You've written a lovely novel. I wish you the very best in its promotion.

Review: Felicity’s War

1941. Whilst London is battered by air raids, Felicity ‘Fliss’ Carmichael has troubles of her own. Reeling from her fiancé’s betrayal, she flees to her

family home at St. Winifred’s Rectory.

Though heartbroken, Fliss finds purpose again as a journalist. On assignment, she crosses paths with Detective Inspector Timothy Wallace, who shares

her passion for truth and justice - though not necessarily her political beliefs. Despite their differences, an instant spark ignites between them.

In a city under siege, Fliss and Tim forge an unlikely bond. But can their blossoming romance endure the perils ahead?

Review

I do love a Jean Fullerton historical! She transports me into the era through characters so real that I feel that I could read about them in a museum. This set of books explores life under the threat of bombings. Yet despite the constant fear, women and men still seek for purpose and love.

Felicity is a very political young woman who encapsulates the philosophical debates of her day. She wants to be a journalist and woman who makes a difference. She and her love interest dive into mystery and love. The book is humorous, fun, and full of history. If you haven’t read any of Ms. Fullerton’s books, then I invite you into her world.

Review: Meet Me in Ivy Falls

Welcome to Ivy Falls

In the gorgeous small town of Ivy Falls, Torran is putting all her passion into building her new career in house restoration, trying desperately to help the town keep its identity and charm. She has no time for love but when her childhood sweetheart, Beck, comes back to town and outbids her on her dream house at auction, sparks fly. This man broke her heart. Can she ever trust him again?

For Beck, Ivy Falls means trauma and loss. He knows his sudden departure hurt Torran badly but there are things she doesn't know. He never intended to return to Ivy Falls so why is he there, bidding on his childhood home? His feelings for Torran are as strong as ever but Torran means Ivy Falls and Beck can't go back there. Can he find a way to heal his past and find his future?

A romantic, uplifting and captivating read set in small-town America, perfect for fans of the Virgin River series and Colleen Hoover.

Review:

In this pleasant enemies-to-lovers romance, HGTV meets Hallmark as a house flipper and a marketing agent find love while haggling over their dream house. There’s an added element of how trauma drives us in good and bad ways.

The writing is easy and effortless with a touch of humor. The characters are deeply flawed, which seemed a little excessive for a breezy novel. However, I enjoyed the twisted road to love and was happy to see the characters find their place in the fictional world.

Review: Passageways

Twenty-seven speculative short stories celebrating the value of the journey: how lessons learned traveling the path between two points often transcend the goal of reaching the destination. These tales—including science fiction, fantasy, and horror—introduce characters who traverse unusual and often unsettling routes toward their desired objectives.

A man ventures through the depths of his beloved's subconscious to save her, only to discover a deep-rooted secret that could destroy everything. A young girl and a newly found friend travel to the Middle of Nowhere, desperate to find a way Out. A teenager struggles to escape the clutches of a demonic blanket inherited from a deceased family member. An "ugly" vampire goes through hell on earth to find his true self and his one true love. A woman revisits her past to determine whether it’s time to pull the plug on a scientific experiment that’s sustained—and devastated—her family for decades.

Passageways is the second short story collection from author Lisa Fox, following her acclaimed debut Core Truths. In these pages, readers voyage through darkness and light, fear and faith; toward understanding and peace. Sanctuary. Self-awareness. Being heard. Being loved. As speculative literary fiction, the stories in this anthology harmonize the excitement and otherworldly escapism that genre-based tales offer with the lyrical poeticism of language that makes storytelling sing.

Review

It’s difficult to review a book of short stories. Each one needs its own review, but that would be cumbersome and likely unhelpful.  The collection is well-curated. Each piece is thoughtful and applicable to the theme. Some of them were deeply thought-provoking, others merely amusing. Each story is quite short and some begged for further development. Overall, it’s a good collection, a nice purse book with entries just long enough to finish in line or before an appointment.
